Today was a quiet day, spent some time booking a few things for the next leg of travel, got our boarding passes and tried to understand London public transportation system. I still don’t think I know what I’m doing so we are going to fly by the seat of our pants and hope for the best.
A few final thoughts on the Netherlands. It is such a friendly, safe feeling country. We don’t have a bad thing to say about it. Everyone we met tried to be as helpful as they could and were very understanding when I butchered the pronunciation of their language. We loved the little town we stayed in and our Air B&B hosts.
A few final tidbits – Netherlands has had to close several jails as they have such a low crime rate. I have observed a few cultural differences. Dinner time seems very important to families here and no one seems to venture out in the evening. If they do they are usually biking or walking with their family or friends. Outdoor cafes are very popular, the restaurants seem to have larger outdoor areas than indoor. They seem to enjoy sitting out even when it is cooler or with a wind. The restaurants provide blankets on the back of chairs to keep you a bit warmer. They seem to love nature, everyone takes pride in their yard, filling it with trees and flowers. Restaurants office buildings and homes are filled with plants. It is rare to walk down the street for 15 minutes without seeing someone carrying a bunch of fresh flowers.
Other fun fact there are more bicycles than people and there are approximately 15,000 bicycles in the canals making it difficult to fish.
