Northern Ireland is associated with the UK so they use the pound and follow the UK laws. The rest of Ireland is the Republic of Ireland. We rented our car in Northern Ireland, made sure we could take it into the south. We had to pay 60 pounds ($110 Canadian) to do that. We were shown how to call for road side assistance. When we got the flat tire we were told we were on our own that they don’t do roadside assistance in the south. We got the car back to our air B&B the day before however the tire went flat again. Our hosts helped us call a tow truck as none of the cars come with spares or jacks.
We had to go all the way to Galway to find a tire that fit the car, a 200 euro bill later for towing about $350 Canadian and then 80 euros for the tire. Guess we should count ourselves lucky that in 2 months that is the only glitch that happened and we learned another very valuable question to ask next time. I however cancelled our car rental for Scotland as it was with the same company and went with enterprise so I can deal with them a little easier from Canada.

Once the tire was fixed and a new can of tire sealant bought we were on our way. We headed to the Cliffs of Moher. We walked along the tops and explored the visitor center.

After viewing the cliffs we went into Doolin and did a little shopping. Next stop was supper. McDermot’s pub had several traditional Irish dishes that were gluten free. I had Cottage Pie and Reg had Bangers and Mash. The food was amazing and the pub had the quintessential vibe that we all think of when we think of a local pub.

Another day is done, we will be getting an early start tomorrow as we take the ferry to Inis Mor and do some serious sweater shopping.
