Our last day in the Burren’s area. Our day started off at the Caherconnell Stone Fort. We toured the ruins of a 1000 year old ring fort, learned all the history surrounding the fort. We also learned how each stone wall was built and the purpose of the different designs. Most of the really old walls were built by slaves. If you committed a crime even something as minor as eating berries off someone’s land you were forced into slavery until your sentence was worked off. Usually you had to work for a family that you committed the crime against.

Once we had seen the fort it was time for the sheep dog demonstration. We watched the dogs work the sheep individually and as a team. There were 2 dogs that were only 2 years into their training. The dog handler said that until they become more reliable they would not be sent up into the mountains however it made for a few laughs. The one dog wasn’t into it while the other couldn’t contain her excitement. Each dog has its own whistle sounds so the hearder can control each dogs actions in a group or from great distances.

Next stop of the day was the Burren Perfumery. It has been in production since the 70’s. It smell incredible and the gardens were beautiful .

We headed back to the air B&B enjoyed supper looking at the view one more time and said goodbye to the dog and cat
