Today we went to the little town of Doune and saw Doune castle. It was used in the filming of Outlanders and Game of Thrones.

After we went to Deanston Distillery for a whisky tasting. We did the tour that took us inside the warehouse, we learned that to be labeled a scotch whiskey it has to be produced in Scotland and has to have a 40% or higher alcohol content. It is distinguished by not having a E in the word whiskey. It is spelt whisky. The whiskey is aged in barrels and what was in the barrel is what gives the whisky the different flavor profiles. They sometimes will age a whisky in one type of barrel such as a red wine barrel for 9 years then they move it to a sherry barrel or a charred barrel to manipulate the flavor. We got to try 3 different whiskey aged between 12 -15 years. We also learned about the angel and devil tax. The devil tax is the whisky that is absorbed into the barrel and the angel tax is what evaporates as the whisky ages. As the tasting was 3 drams of whisky and it’s not my favourite thing they gave us small bottles to bring the rest home in to enjoy here. They have 6 warehouses on site and each holds over a quarter million dollars worth of inventory.

On our way home we drove through some beautiful countryside

This is the cottage we are staying in.
