Yesterday we went to a house that defies gravity. It is an estate from the 1500. It was the home of the Morton’s. The house has was built on large stone slabs but they have sunk at various depths over the course of time causing the house to become crooked and wavy. The story is that a long walking hall was added to the roof of the house and the weight of it started off the problems. At the time the walking hall was added it was the elite thing to have. A walking hall for the women to walk without going outside.

The first wallpaper. It was painted on paper and pasted on the walls.
Engineers were hired to shore up the house to keep it from becoming more unstable. It was fixed up in the 90’s.
