St Andrew’s is on the East coast of Scotland and has the oldest golf course.

Reg went on a guided walking tour about the history of golf and got to walk on the oldest course. He didn’t get to play a round as it costs 340 pounds which is about $620 Canadian. You also can’t rent clubs, you have to supply your own.

St Andrew’s has shaped golf the way we know it today, starting in 1744 no matter what source you read it was 1744, changing it from 22 to 18 holes in 1950 the word fairway, worlds deepest bunker at 10ft. The 18th hole has a white flag instead of red so it can be seen. Story there is a local was refused membership so he built a red sandstone building so the 18th hole red flag could not be seen causing the course to break tradition and make it white. This building is the most expensive real estate in Scotland, 7 million pounds for one flat. The town owns the course and many traditions still carry on today like no golf on Sunday as it is free to all to use as a park. The golf store is where Tom made items for golf and practiced inside of which can be seen from the marks on the original stone floor. The course sees about 49,000 rounds of golf played annually.

Drove through town and looked at the ruins of St Andrew’s Castle

Final stop of the day was a farm garden center shop.
